Stroke rehabilitation: physiotherapy and occupational therapy, together

Reviewed by Dr. Satish, occupational therapist & physiotherapistUpdated 5 min read

After a stroke, the brain can relearn a surprising amount — and the first months matter most. Because Dr. Satish practises both physiotherapy and occupational therapy, walking, balance, arm and hand use, and everyday tasks like dressing and eating are worked on in one joined-up plan.

Think a stroke is happening right now? Face drooping, arm weakness or slurred speech — call 108 or 112 immediately. Rehab comes after emergency care.

What rehab works on

Starting early — at home if needed

Rehab can usually begin as soon as the hospital team says it’s safe. If getting to a clinic is hard, we come to you in Patna or Gurgaon. Home sessions also let us practise in the places you actually need to manage — your bed, bathroom and stairs.

The family’s role

Family members are a big part of recovery. We show carers how to help with transfers safely, which exercises to practise between sessions, and how to encourage use of the weaker side without frustration on either side.

How long does recovery take?

Most improvement happens in the first three to six months, but progress can continue for much longer with regular practice. We set short, measurable goals together and review them every few weeks.

We also work with Parkinson’s disease, nerve injuries, Bell’s palsy and other neurological conditions.

Your first visit

  1. Message or call us. Tell us what’s going on and whether you’d like the Patna clinic, the Gurgaon clinic or a home visit. We’ll find a time and tell you the fee upfront.
  2. A proper assessment. Dr. Satish asks about your history, watches how you move, checks strength and range, and explains what’s actually going on — in plain language.
  3. Treatment usually starts that day. Hands-on work, exercise or both, depending on what the assessment shows.
  4. A plan you can follow. You leave with a few exercises for home, a realistic timeline and an idea of how many sessions to expect.

Bring along any scans, reports or discharge summaries, a list of your medicines, and clothes you can move in.

Fees depend on the treatment and on whether it’s at the clinic or at home. Ask on WhatsApp and we’ll tell you before you book — no surprises.
